About Frenchies …

 

The French Bulldog is a sturdy small Bulldog with large, bat-like ears, a flat muzzle and pug nose. There skin is soft and fairly loose, making the dog very pleasant to pet. There square flat head is not as massive as the English Bulldog's and there forehead is rounded giving it the appearance of an active, intelligent, muscular dog with a smooth coat. The French Bulldog makes a wonderful companion to small children and in a family situations this little dog behaves like a child, demanding a great deal of personal attention and interaction.

 

· Country of Origin: The French Bulldog was originally breed in England but in the 1860's, 

     French dog  breeders imported some of these very small Bulldogs from Great Britain

     and bred them with French Terriers.

 

· Height: 12 inches

· Weight: 19-28 lbs

· Colors: Cream, Chocolate, Blue, Blue Fawn, Fawn, Red, Red Fawn, Honey Pied, Brindle,

     White and combinations of brindle or fawn with white.

· Coat: Short, smooth and finely textured.

· Life Expectancy: 10-14 years

· Average Litter Size: 2 to 6 puppies

 

· Health Issues: Prone to eye and respiratory problems, the dog may wheeze, snore and be 

     gassy. The French Bulldog cannot swim because of its physique, so be very careful around

     swimming pools. Sometimes bitches must deliver by Cesarean section because of the

     puppies' large heads.

 

· Living Environment: This breed is very sensitive to temperature extremes. If the dog 

     becomes overly hot it may cause heat stroke. The dog does well in apartments and can be 

     Fairly active indoors and does well without access to a yard.
